LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—The Robinson Center Music Hall was the location of the Shen Yun Performing Arts show on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Television producer Ms. Haycock and her daughter Kendle, a former soldier stationed in Iraq, came to the show as a Christmas present from the daughter to her mother.
Besides working in television production, Ms. Haycock also teaches English language to foreign students, works in a gourmet market, and is a florist. She said she saw the posters for the show last year after it was finished and was disappointed that she had missed it, so Kendle made sure she got tickets to see it this year. Kendle has been back from Iraq for a year and is finishing college. She is currently a stand-up comedian, waitress, actress, and dancer.
Talking about the show, Ms. Haycock said she found the mix of the spiritual aspect with the ancient Chinese culture very interesting. “It was exquisitely beautiful; the costuming was magnificent. The dancers were extremely talented. We would look forward to seeing it again.”
Kendle said, “I liked the intricacies of the choreography—how intricate and complicated it was and how well executed it was, and the costuming.”
Ms. Haycock added, “And the theatrical aspect, it was as much acting as it was dancing.”
She also noted the commitment of the performers. “They're very, very serious— they're very serious about what they're doing, and we appreciate that. They were not nonchalant, they didn't give us a part of the show—they gave a full 100 percent. It was beautiful. It was wonderful!”
Kendle agreed with her mother, saying, “Their commitment to train their bodies with the strength, flexibility, and stamina was very admirable.”
Ms. Haycock mentioned, “I bought a book to show my granddaughters and so that hopefully next year they will come too, and it was just wonderful, it was magnificent. It was not ordinary—it was something different, and we really appreciate it. It was beautiful.”
